The Norske Skog Group (Norwegian for "Norwegian forest") based in Oslo (Norway) is one of the largest paper manufacturers in the world.

history

The forerunner of Norske Skog was founded on March 1st, 1962 as "Nordenfjelske Treforedling". The company's first paper mill started production with the PM1 in 1966 in Skogn near Levanger .

The company's managing director since December 2018 has been Niels Petter Wright , who previously headed the Elopak company . Lars PS Sperre managed the company as interim president and CEO.

Products

The product range is largely concentrated on the production of publication paper for newspapers and magazines. With its products, the company has a market share of around 13% and is the second largest supplier of newsprint and the third largest manufacturer of magazine paper.

Production sites

The company has 8 production sites in 6 countries, including paper mills in Bruck an der Mur , Austria , Golbey in France and Halden and Skogn in Norway, wholly or partially . The group employs around 2,500 people and had sales of around € 1.2 billion (NOK 11.5 billion) in the 2015 financial year.

Former location in Duisburg-Walsum

The plant, founded in Duisburg - Walsum in 1962 , which came to Norske Skog from Haindl via UPM-Kymmene, produces LWC paper . At the end of 2013, one of the two paper machines was shut down, and production capacity almost halved to 220,000 tons per year.

On June 5, 2015, the group announced that it would close the factory. The management filed for bankruptcy on the same day .

The factory in Duisburg-Walsum now operates as Walsum Papier . An investor is wanted. There are also considerations to replace the costly purchase of steam with a more cost-effective in-house production.

At the end of 2016, the processing business was discontinued and the factory premises were sold to the Duisburger Hafengesellschaft Duisport .
