North Channel

Coordinates: 46 ° 4 ′  N , 82 ° 54 ′  W The North Channel (English for "North Channel") forms the northwestern part of the Huron Sea . It isseparated from the main lakeby a chain of islands consisting of Manitoulin , Cockburn , Drummond and St. Joseph . George Bay joins in the east. In the west, the Saint Marys River , the outflow of Lake Superior , flows into the North Channel.

To the north is the Algoma District of the Canadian province of Ontario . The Mississagi River and Spanish River drain this area and flow into the North Channel.

Most of the body of water is in the Canadian province of Ontario. With Drummond Island and the northeastern shore of the Upper Peninsula , Michigan (USA) borders the North Channel.

The North Channel lies on the southern edge of the Canadian Shield , which was shaped by the retreat of the glaciers at the end of the last Ice Age around 11,000 years ago.
