The North Ings Farm Narrow Gauge Railway and Vintage Tractor Museum is a narrow-gauge railway and tractor museum on a working farm in Dorrington , between Lincoln and Sleaford in the English county of Lincolnshire .

history

The North Ings Farm Museum displays historic farm equipment and tractors, utility vehicles, portable steam pumps and a fairground organ. The museum operates a 550 m long, narrow-gauge, ring-shaped railroad with a 610 mm (2 foot ) gauge .

After the extremely wet winter of 1971/72, in which it was difficult to supply the chicken farm with dump trucks, a narrow-gauge railway was relocated to the 5 buildings on the site. Rail operations began in November 1972. In March 1981 the keeping of chickens was stopped for economic reasons and the narrow-gauge railway has been operated as a hobby since then, for which additional locomotives were purchased. The railway line was supplemented by a loop to the nearby lake.

In 1990 the collection was made accessible to the public on the recommendation of the local council assembly. The collection has since expanded.

Rail vehicles

There are 8 diesel locomotives available for the museum operation, plus two more on loan from the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum in Tywyn , Wales. The steam tram's locomotive is currently being overhauled.

The lorries and wagons were collected over a long period of time. Some were converted for museum railroad operations, but one car was always kept in its original appearance. Some passenger cars were acquired from the former Abbey Light Railway in Leeds , which ceased operations in 2013. These are stored outside the exhibition area.

The signal box at Pear Tree Junction comes from Holmes Yard in Lincoln, where it was previously used as a solvent store. The signal levers come from the former Skellingthorpe signal box near Lincoln.
