The North Region (or North) is one of the five regions of the city-state of Singapore . It had 573,950 inhabitants in 2019 (resident residents only). With a total area of 134.5 square kilometers, the region is at the northern corner of the island Singapore and is bordered to the east by the North West region , in the southwest of the western region and the north by the Straits of Johor . Woodlands is the regional center and also the most populous neighborhood. Overall, the region is divided into 7 planning areas and a Central Water Catchment, which functions as a nature park.
The relative isolation of the area from the inner city center meant a rather delayed urban development and a greater abundance of green spaces. Nevertheless, the Woodlands region includes one of the largest modern districts in Singapore. In recent years, the population density in Singapore has increased significantly due to the population growth and urban development has been advanced according to plan. The region is home to around 129,000 residential units of various types, although public housing construction tends to dominate. The region has 3 square kilometers of recreational areas. With the Singapore Zoo , Night Safari and River Safari , the region has three zoos.

The Sembawang Shipyard is a shipyard that specializes in ship repair and manufacture. The shipyard is owned by SembCorp Marine and has the deepest dry dock in Southeast Asia .
