North West Cornice ( English for northwest ledge ) is a narrow and rocky mountain ridge on the island of Heard in the southern Indian Ocean . It extends from Big Ben in a north-westerly direction and ends at the Schmidt Glacier in the north-western part of the island.
Participants in the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions carried out surveys and descriptive naming in 1948.
