Coordinates: 41 ° 36 ′  S , 147 ° 7 ′  E The Northern Midlands are a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 5130 km² and has about 13,000 inhabitants (2016).

The Northern Midlands are located in the east of the island about 150 km north of the capital Hobart . The area includes 25 hamlets and towns: Avoca, Ben Lomond, Bishopsbourne, Blackwood Creek, Upper Blessington, Breadalbane, Campbell Town , Cleveland, Conara, Deddington, Devon Hills, Epping Forest, Evandale, Lake Leake, Liffey, Longford, Nile, Perth , Poatina, Powranna, Ross , Rossarden, Royal George, Toiberry and Western Junction. The seat of the City Council is in Longford in the northwest of the LGA, where about 3400 inhabitants live (2016).

The Northern Midlands Council has nine members. The mayor (mayor), his deputy (deputy) and seven councilors are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Northern Midlands is not divided into districts.
