Northstar Line

The Northstar Line has been a passenger rail link in the US state of Minnesota between Minneapolis and Big Lake since 2009 . The track systems and rights of way are owned by the BNSF Railway .

The travel time for the entire route of 64 kilometers is 51 minutes. Six journeys are offered in each direction every day, these run exclusively during rush hour, but sometimes at half-hourly intervals. At the weekend, there are three journeys in each direction throughout the day. There are Bombardier BiLevel Doppelstockwagen used.

The Northstar Corridor Development Authority (NCDA), which was founded in May 1997 by 30 counties, cities, townships and regional railway authorities, was responsible for building up passenger traffic on the route, which was previously only used by freight and the Empire Builder daily long-distance train . Commissioning took place on November 16, 2009. The route was originally intended to be built beyond Big Lake to the much larger St. Cloud , but this was not realized for financial reasons.
