Norton Lang

Norton Lang (born July 5, 1940 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American physicist .

Lang received an AB in 1962 and an AM in 1965 at Harvard University and a PhD in physics there in 1968. From 1967 to 1969 he was an Assistant Research Physicist at the University of California . In the same year he switched to IBM and continued to research there in the field of electronic structures. From 1984 to 1993 he was a manager at IBM 's Electron Structure Theory Group. For his contributions to the understanding of electron gas, he and Walter Kohn received the Davisson-Germer Prize in 1977 .
