Location of Norway in Lower Saxony

Norway is a district of the municipality of Lastrup in Lower Saxony in the district of Cloppenburg in Germany . With just under 60 residents Norway is the second smallest of the fourteen community members and the southern peasantry Lastrups. Norway borders the municipality of Löningen .

origin of the name

The background to the naming "Norway" for this district has not yet been fully clarified. One possible explanation leads to Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig von Oldenburg , during whose reign the first settlement of new farmers fell in this place after the Lastruper brand division in 1823 and who came from the house of the Gottorf Oldenburgs (also Holstein-Gottorp) . The older line of this house held the royal throne of Denmark at that time , which is why they also represented the Norwegian kings from 1380 until a short time before in 1814 . It is therefore conceivable that the naming was intended to commemorate this great time of the Holstein-Gottorp family and to symbolically restore the reign of Norway to the house.
