Hamstrup is a farming community in the municipality of Lastrup in the district of Cloppenburg in Lower Saxony . About 350 people live here.

geography

The farming community is divided into seven neighborhoods (districts): Dorf, Große Heide, Kleine Heide, Norway (as a separate farming community), Osterhauk, Riehen, Siedlung. In the north, the Löninger Mühlenbach forms the natural border with Lastrup, in the south Hamstrup borders the municipalities of Löningen and Essen / Oldenburg in the Bunner Forsten area .

history

Hamstrup is first mentioned in a document in the 14th century. There was a school since at least 1783, but it was closed at the end of the 1974 school year. The former school building is now used as a village community center.

Hamstrup primary school

The Hamstrup elementary school has existed since at least 1783. When Bernhard Heinrich Overberg visited the school that year, teacher Johann Wilhelm Ostermann was teaching there. He was the eldest son of a farmer and taught the children reading, writing and religion. The children only attended school in winter. The current school building was built in 1896 as a single-class school. The teacher's house with stable was connected to the school. The teacher could keep 2-3 cows, some sheep and pigs. Farmland and pastures were available to him. In 1920 a bell tower was added to the school and the bell was purchased from Künken in Löningen. It is still a custom today for the angelus to be rung at noon , in the event of deaths among the peasantry, the bell rings from 11:45 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. until the day of the funeral, the so-called death toll. In 1934 an application was made to the municipality of Lastrup to add a second classroom. In 1935 the Norwegian peasantry applied for a school in Norway to be built instead of a second classroom in Hamstrup. The motivation was justified by the fact that the children have a long and especially difficult way to school, especially in winter. This application was rejected, so that in 1935 a second classroom could be added. From 1935 to 1939 the school was run in two classes, from 1939 to 1945 (during the Second World War ) the children were looked after by only one teacher, Joseph Bünker, in shift lessons. Due to the influx of refugees and displaced persons, the school had three classes for a few years after the war, the children were taught in two classrooms by three teachers in the mornings and afternoons. In 1950 the school became two-class again and remained so until 1967. From then until 1969 it was a single class with grades 1-8. Since 1962, the 9th grade attended the school in Lastrup. From 1969 the upper class and the 4th school year were schooled after Lastrup. The Hamstrup School was continued as a one-class school. The school was closed at the end of the 1974 school year and the Hamstrup children have been attending primary school in Lastrup ever since.

Trivia

Since November 2016, a bet attracted attention: Pokali , the cover of a trophy won by the Hamstrup rifle group, had to travel around the world within a year. In the course of this trip the cup lid was in Russia , the USA , Tanzania , Saudi Arabia , Australia and other countries and finally also in Rome , which was part of the bet. It was reported in numerous media. The bet arose from the practice shooting of the Hamstrup train on November 18, 2016, in which two shooting brothers bet that the lid of a trophy would have to be sent around the world in 12 months. On its world tour, the lid was taken in over 30 countries and has traveled to six continents . The cover covered approx. 170,000 km.
