Arab League emergency summit on the situation in the Gulf

The emergency summit of the Arab League on the situation in the Gulf (Emergency Arab League Summit) on 30 May 2019 was a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the Arab League in Jeddah . It was convened by Salman ibn Abd al-Aziz, the ruler of the member state of Saudi Arabia .

Attendees

Among the invited participants was Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani , the Emir of Qatar , whom the House of Saud and his state had boycotted for the previous two years . Mohammed VI (Morocco) sent his brother Prince Moulay Rachid to this meeting to represent the member of the Arab League, Morocco.

Agenda

Salman ibn Abd al-Aziz lamented that the development of nuclear capabilities and ballistic missiles in Iran endangers regional and global security. The government in Tehran poses a risk for maritime trade routes and the global oil supply in “blatant disregard” of UN treaties. He suggested an Iranian authorship of the attacks on oil tankers and on oil supply facilities in late May 2019.

Three days later on June 1, 2019, the 14th Summit of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation took place in Mecca .
