Daniken Emergency Chapel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nothelferkapelle Däniken (also Kapelle im Eich ) is a chapel dedicated to the fourteen helpers in the Swiss village of Däniken . It was created 1803–1805. After the French invasion of 1798/1799, vows were made in many places to erect a cross, a wayside shrine or a chapel if the French would leave again. The construction of this chapel goes back to such a promise.

The building has a recessed, round, windowless choir , to which the nave adjoins with two side windows each. The saddle roof has a ridge that runs the same height over the entire building , the choir closure is designed as a 3/8 hipped roof . The roof turret with a small bell is positioned above the choir arch.

On the altar wall, to the right and left of a large Madonna in a halo , are the busts of the Fourteen Holy Helpers with their attributes . They were made around 1840 by Jos. Meier carved from Winznau . The station pictures of the Way of the Cross are executed as naive reverse glass painting .

The chapel was renovated in 1950.
