Notion
Notion ( Greek Νότιον ) was an ancient city on the west coast of Asia Minor . It is located in today's Turkey about 50 km south of İzmir on the Gulf of Kuşadası .
Notion was considered an Aeolian foundation, but was in Ionia . It served as the port city for Colophon and the sanctuary of Klaros . In ancient times, pilgrims came to Notion when they wanted to visit Klaros. They made a pilgrimage about a kilometer on a holy road to the local oracle. In Hellenistic times, notion was associated with colophon.
The city was elevated on a hill from which one could see the sea well. There are remains of the fortification wall, the necropolis, the temple, the agora and the theater .
