Notker Heine

Notker Heine (born January 27, 1697 - † July 13, 1758 ) was the librarian at the St. Gallen Monastery from 1738 to 1749 .

Live and act

Notker Heine was born in Altdorf near Weingarten. He came to St. Gallen on March 17, 1719. He made his vows on October 28, 1720. On December 20, 1721 he became a subdeacon and on May 30, 1722 a deacon . Notker Heine became a priest on March 13, 1723. On October 22, 1723 he began teaching as a professor of philosophy , at the behest of Abbot Joseph von Rudolfi . On October 9, 1724, Notker Heine held a disputation . After several visiting professorships in Mariastein , he became a brother instructor in St. Gallen in 1730 . On October 18, 1733, he was allowed to go on a pilgrimage to Einsiedeln after the abbot had given permission. On December 30th of the same year he held another philosophical disputation. On January 8, 1734, he was appointed professor of morality and began lecturing on January 21. In 1737 he fell ill, but was nevertheless consistorial counselor. On June 22, 1738 he was appointed librarian. However, he came to St. Johann as a subprior on November 21, 1740 , from where he was seconded to Fischingen for a disputation on April 23, 1742 and to Muri on September 21, 1745. On November 6th he was released as a subprior in St. Johann, but apparently remained there until his death.

Notker Heine distinguished himself primarily through academic achievements. Among them are some published writings on theology and philosophy. He wrote about the philosophy of Celestine Sfondrati .
