Notre-Dame-de-Santé
Notre-Dame-de-Santé is a Roman Catholic bridge chapel in Carcassonne in the Aude department in France . The chapel was classified as a monument historique in 1932 .
history
Notre-Dame-de-Santé was built after 1527 in the Flamboyant Gothic style . It was built on the west bank of the Aude directly at the entrance of the medieval bridge Pont-Vieux . The construction was made possible by a foundation and the chapel originally served an associated hospital. The choir room of the chapel is oriented almost to the east with the bridge over the Aude. The single-nave church closes in the east with a three-sided apse in which a statue of Our Lady of Health is placed. The elaborate vaults were not built until after the Wars of Religion and a keystone bears the year 1697.
