Notre-Dame is a Roman Catholic parish church in Locmaria, a district of Quimper in Brittany . The church was originally part of a priory of Benedictine . The church has been classified as a monument historique since 1855 .

history

The church consecrated to Our Lady was built around 1200 for a priory of the Abbey of St-Sulpice des Bois near Rennes . It represents a three-aisled basilica in strict Romanesque forms. A rugged, unstructured crossing tower rises above the crossing. In the east the church closes with a three apse. A large semicircular apse closes off the central choir bay, while the transept arms close to the east with smaller semicircular apses. In the 16th century the west facade and the portal were changed.

In the 17th century, the priory buildings south of the church were rebuilt. On the south wall of the nave, a cloister wing has been preserved, which is dated to 1670. In the course of the French Revolution , the priory went under. The church was not used as a parish church until 1857.
