The Romanesque church Notre-Dame de Galilée or Notre Dame de Saint-Dié (also called Petite Église ) is located directly next to the Cathedral of Saint-Dié in the town of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges in the countryside of the southern Vosges . Church construction has been recognized as a monument historique since 1886 .

location

The church, located at a height of approx. 340 m, is separated from the cathedral of Saint-Dié only by a late medieval cloister (cloître) .

history

After a fire in the previous building, the church was rebuilt in 1155. After another fire in 1554, the upper half of the former west tower was given an unadorned gable field and a simple saddle roof.

architecture

The three-aisled church building consists almost exclusively of the reddish sandstone of the Vosges. The most beautiful component is the apse with what used to be five arched windows ; it was raised in the 16th century to renew the vaults. The nave of the church is now two-storey with a high arcade zone ; In the past, the vault was probably placed directly above the surrounding console frieze . The side aisles still have their original groin vaults .

Furnishing

The furnishings include a grave figure of Countess Richilde and a reliquary made in the 19th century .
