Novaled GmbH is a company that develops organic light emitting diodes ( OLED ). These are mainly used as lighting elements or in displays.

Novaled is a 2003 spin-off of the TU Dresden from the Institute for Applied Photophysics. Two years later, it moved to the BioInnovationsZentrum Dresden start-up center . The company received the German Future Prize 2011 for developing organic semiconductors for practical use.

In spring 2011, the CFO told VentureCapital Magazin that “the exit of our venture capital investors should also be implemented” within the next two years. On August 9, 2013 Novaled announced that the South Korean company Cheil Industries, a subsidiary of the Samsung group, would take over 50 percent and thus the majority stake for around 260 million euros. Samsung Electronics takes over another 40 percent. "Technological lead will decide on market leadership in the screen market in the future," said the managing director of Cheil Industries, Jong-Woo Park.
