Novella Hamilton Richards
Sir novella Hamilton Richards (born November 24, 1917 in Liberta, Antigua , † 1986 in Antigua) was a writer and politician from Antigua and Barbuda .
Life
He first attended schools in Antigua and then completed a journalism training at the London Polytechnic Institute. In 1951, when workers' suffrage was introduced on the island nation , he was elected to the Antigua Legislative Council for the first time. In 1958 he became a member of the parliament of the West Indian Federation , belonged to the government and temporarily took over the duties of prime minister. When Great Britain granted the country internal autonomy in 1967 , he was elected President of the Senate of Antigua and Barbuda and in the same year appointed by the governments of the Eastern Caribbean states as First Chairman of the Diplomatic Trade Commission in Canada. He died in 1986 as the Deputy Governor General of his country.
