The Novosteel SA based in Neuchâtel is an internationally active Swiss commodity trading company . The core business of Novosteel is trading in steel . This is bought directly from the steel producers and mainly sold on to the processing industry , wholesalers and stockists. In addition to its headquarters in Neuchâtel, Novosteel has offices in Montreal, Los Angeles and Shanghai.

The company was founded in Neuchâtel in 1988. In 1999 the managing director, Michael Setterdahl, who had been in office since it was founded, took over complete control. Novosteel subsequently expanded its trading activities with more than 60 suppliers in 25 countries, over 180 customers in 18 countries and an annual turnover of around 250 million Swiss francs. In 2005 the Canadian Harris Steel Group, which has been part of the US Nucor group since 2007 , acquired a 75 percent stake in Novosteel.
