Nowik-class destroyer Frunze

The Novik-class was a large class of destroyers entered into service by the Imperial Russian Navy before World War I and taken over by the new Bolshevik government after the 1917 October Revolution .

history

The Nowik-class destroyers were introduced from 1913. They were relatively heavily armed and could drive a lot. A total of 28 ships of the class were built. Only one boat, the Grom , was lost during World War I while Russia was still involved in the war. In the course of the revolution and the civil war that followed, some destroyers were sunk by White Guard troops. For example the Bijstri shown here ; it was later raised and renamed Frunze . On September 21, 1941, the Frunze was sunk by bombs.

Other destroyers made detours as far as Peru , where they remained in service until the late 1950s. Further ships, especially the Black Sea Fleet, were to be handed over to the Imperial German Navy in 1918 ; however, their crews preferred to sink their ships themselves.
