The 96.44 km² large lake is part of a chain of lakes that extends from Ontojärvi to Oulujärvi . It lies at a height of 137.9 m. The river Kajaaninjoki forms the drain to Oulujärvi . There is the city of Kajaani . The lake is divided into two main basins. The eastern part forms the actual Nuasjärvi , the western part of the Rehja .
