The Kajaaninjoki ( Swedish Kajana älv ) is a river in the Finnish landscape of Kainuu .

The approximately twelve kilometer long river forms the outflow of the Nuasjärvi to Oulujärvi and at the same time represents the last link in a chain of lakes that extends from Kuhmo to Oulujärvi.

The town of Kajaani is located on the river bank . Three hydropower plants with a total output of 35 MW use the slope of the river.
