Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc. (NFS) is an American nuclear company. Alongside BWX Technologies, the company is the main supplier of nuclear fuel to the American Navy . In addition, the company is engaged in converting plutonium and uranium from nuclear weapons into fuel rods for nuclear power plants. The Browns Ferry Nuclear Power Plant is a major customer. In addition, one deals with the decontamination of old nuclear power plants.

history

The company was founded in 1957 by the Davison Chemical Company . At that time, fuel rods were made from highly enriched uranium and thorium. Today's Nuclear Fuel Services, Inc. was formed in 1964 when WR Grace & Company and American Machine & Foundry Company joined forces. It was then that fuel rods for the navy began to be produced. They also expanded into New York State , where a processing plant was built in Ashford . The West Valley Reprocessing Plant produced from 1966 to 1972.

In 1969 Getty Oil and Skelly Oil (under the control of Getty Oil since 1930) bought the company. In 1984 Texaco bought Getty Oil and with it NFS, there was no interest and sold the company to a group of private investors. You have been running the company since then, but in 2007 you expressed an interest in selling again.

On August 20, 2007 it was announced that Erwin almost had a criticality accident . On March 9, 2006, 35 liters of uranium solution ran out of a leaky pipe and spread across a corridor without collecting enough.
