Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Jesús

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Jesús , also Iglesia de la Mare de Déu de Jesús or Iglesia de Jesús for short , is a church in the town of Santa Eulària des Riu on the Balearic island of Ibiza .

The church was built by the Franciscans in the 15th century and expanded in the middle of the 16th century, the main nave was laid out with a new higher vault, where the presbytery and the Gothic altarpiece are located. The rest is covered with barrel vaults. The church was consecrated in 1549 and in 1580 handed over to the Dominican monks who settled on the island. The church was used by sailors who lived outside the city walls of Eivissa (Dalt Vila).

In 1785 the church became a parish after the establishment of the diocese of Ibiza and the arrival of the first bishop Manuel Abad y Lasierra . The church underwent new modifications, such as the creation of the capella fonda with six side chapels and the porch with columns and arches, which were built in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Next to it are the houses of the rector and the vicar.

In the church there is a multi-part altarpiece with the image of Mary Enthroned with the child in the center, surrounded by a series of images of saints. The predella contains scenes from the life of Mary . The reredos are attributed to the workshop of the Valencian painter Rodrigo de Osona and his sons Francisco and Jerónimo.
