Nueva Braunau

Nueva Braunau is a village in the Puerto Varas District , Llanquihue Province , Región de los Lagos , in southern Chile . Currently it has about 3000 inhabitants.

The village was founded on August 15, 1877 by Bohemian and Austrian settlers who came from the present-day Czech town of Broumov (German Braunau ).

Nueva Braunau is five kilometers west of Puerto Varas. Its economy is based on agriculture and tourism , plus a sausage factory. The volunteer fire brigade is Nueva Braunau número 5 .

The Museo Antonio Felmer, which is housed in one of the houses that the settlers built in the 19th century, shows objects from the everyday life of the first immigrants.
