The city is strongly influenced by German with many historical buildings from the Wilhelminian era. The most famous sight is the "German parish church" Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, a wooden construction with corrugated iron cladding. It was built in 1915 by Edmundo Niklitschek, Bernardo Klenner and Adalio Morales and is said to be based on a church in the Black Forest.
