The Club Atlético Nueva Chicago is an Argentine football club from the district Mataderos in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires . The club name refers to the nickname of the district, which has been compared to Chicago in the past because of its many slaughterhouses . The club plays at the Estadio Nueva Chicago stadium .
Riots in 2007
In the 2006/07 season, the club played in the Primera Division , but rose to the second division after the team lost a play-off against CA Tigre . During the second half, when it was foreseeable that Nueva Chicago would lose, fans began to riot and caused significant damage to the stadium. There were also street fights in which a supporter of Tigre died. As a consequence, the team received a deduction of 18 points at the start of the new season. Most Nueva Chicago supporters, however, condemned the violence and deplored the Tigre fan's death. The death was the first in connection with a Nueva Chicago game and many supporters were outraged that rioting by a few could not be stopped by the police and the club's officials.
