Nueva Ciudad Guerrero is a city in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas . It is located at Falcon Reservoir near the border with the United States at Rio Salado . The closest American city is Falcon Heights , Texas, and the closest major Mexican city is Ciudad Mier . According to the last census from 2010, 4,312 people live in Nueva Ciudad Guerrero, which is the administrative center of the Municipio Guerrero .


Nueva Ciudad Guerrero was founded in 1750 under the name Villa del Señor San Ignacio de Loyola de Revilla , but later renamed after the second Mexican President Vicente Guerrero. In 1840 the place served for a short time as the capital of the briefly established Republic of the Rio Grande , which was never officially recognized.
