Nukunukumotu (also: Nuku Nuku ) is an island in the Tongatapu archipelago in the north of Tongatapu in the Pacific . Politically, it belongs to the Kingdom of Tonga .

geography

The Motu is one of the larger islands off the coast of Tongatapu. It connects almost directly to the north coast of the main island Tongatapu. It is located opposite the Houmakelikao suburb of Nukuʻalofa and belongs to the same reef crown as Manima , ʻOneata and Pangaimotu , which mark the western end of the Piha Passage (Astrolabe Channel).

The place on the island is called Siesia . It is located on the north coast and consists of only a few huts.

climate

The climate is tropical hot, but is tempered by constantly blowing winds. Like the other islands of the Tongatapu Group, Nukunukumotu is occasionally hit by cyclones .
