Num Skull was an American thrash and death metal band from Winthrop Harbor , Illinois , that was formed in 1985 and split again in 1996.
history
The band was formed in 1985. Their first demo called Num's the Word came out a year later in 1986. In 1988 the second demo called Thrash to the Bone was released. This caught the attention of Enigma Records , which resulted in a contract with this label. Later that year the band recorded their debut album, Ritually Abused . Problems between the band and the management later led the band to split up with their label.
In early 1991 the band released a demo cassette. In 1995 the label Rage Records became aware of the band, about which the split single Num Skull / Sea of Tranquility was released. In the same year the band recorded two songs for Growing Deaf Entertainment ( Netherlands ), which were included on the compilation History of Things to Come . In the same year, the demo also released another demo. It contained the songs from the compilation, the songs split single and three new songs. In 1996 the band went back to the studio to record the album When Suffering Comes and to release it that same year on Defiled Records . This album was the first album with Paul Benigno as vocalist, Scott Creekmore as drummer and singer, Mike Eisenhauer as bassist and David Harrington and Tom Brandner as guitarists. The band broke up that same year.
style
The band plays a mix of Thrash and Death Metal, comparing them to bands like Kreator and Sabbat . The music is described as "the progressive version of the first Nuclear Assault album" ("a progressive version of the first Nuclear Assault album"). The songs have a special rhythm, which is compared to the works of the band Exhorder .
