Numerus Exploratorum Seiopensium

The Numerus Exploratorum Seiopensium ( German  numerus of the scouts in Seiopa ) was a Roman auxiliary unit . It is documented by inscriptions. In the inscription ( CIL 11, 3104 ) the unit is referred to as Exploratio Seiopensium .

Name components

  • Exploratorum : the scout or scout.
  • Seiopensium : in Seiopa . The addition refers to an (unknown) location of the unit called Seiopa (or Seiopum ).

history

The numerus was stationed in the province of Germania superior in the first half of the 3rd century AD . It is first proven by the inscription ( CIL 13, 6605 ) that was found near Miltenberg and that is dated to 212 AD.
