Nunzia Catalfo (born July 29, 1967 in Catania , Sicily , Italy ) is an Italian politician ( M5S ). She is Minister for Labor and Social Policy in the Conte II cabinet .

Life

Catalfo worked professionally in the field of career orientation for students. Since 2008 she has been active in the Movimento 5 Stelle (M5S) party. She was elected to the Senate in 2013 , and was re-elected in 2018 . She represents the constituency of Catania there. From 2013 to 2018 she was also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe . In this function, she drafted resolution 2197 of the Parliamentary Assembly, which calls for citizens' money . Since June 2018, she has been Chairwoman of the Labor and Social Security Committee in the Senate. The Bürgergeld, which was introduced in Italy with her participation, is much more similar to the German unemployment benefit II ( Hartz IV ) than to an unconditional basic income, despite the name reddito di cittadinanza (citizenship income) .

In the 2nd cabinet of Giuseppe Conte , which has been in office since September 5, 2019, she is the successor of her party friend Luigi Di Maio Minister for Labor and Social Policy.
