Nury Vittachi (born October 2, 1958 ) is an Asian writer and journalist born in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka ). Vittachi writes in English.

biography

Vittachi's father, Tarzie Vittachi, was a journalist and writer in Ceylon at the time of the first unrest between the Sinhala and Tamil ethnic groups. He published a book about the fighting, which was published in England because of the prevailing censorship in Ceylon. This led to death threats and the family emigrated to Singapore and later to Kuala Lumpur .

Nury Vittachi himself grew up mainly in England and learned the profession of journalist in the English tabloid press . From 1987 to 1997 Vittachi worked as a tabloid journalist for newspapers in Hong Kong and often wrote amusing and amused about the English used by many Asians and, on the other hand, about the lack of understanding of Asian customs by Europeans.

This subject area finally led to the novel in the series “The Fengshui Detective” in 2000 with the main characters of an older Chinese Fengshui master and an Australian teen who have absolutely nothing in common.

Vittachi is also the publisher and initiator of a literary magazine ( Dimsum ), which publishes many English-language Asian authors.
