Nut (crossbow component)
The nut is a crucial part in the deduction of most medieval crossbows . It was made from horn , deer antlers and later also from metal . The purpose of the nut is to hold the bowstring in place before the pressurized nut is released through the trigger. The nut sits in the nut well , a recess in the shaft that allows the nut to run freely. The nut is also held in place by the nut thread, a waxed linen thread .
