Nahwa

New Nahwa

Nahwa ( Arabic النحوة, DMG an-Naḥwa ) is a village in the United Arab Emirates in the Emirate of Sharjah . The special thing about Nahwa is that the area is completely surrounded by the Omani area of Madha , which in turn is surrounded by the UAE. Thus Nahwa is one of the few second-order enclaves ( similar demarcations were also found in the Indian-Bangladeshi enclaves or currently exist in Baarle-Nassau ).

With an area of 382 hectares , Nahwa is a sector of the municipality of Khor Fakkan , the main part of which forms the central coastal enclave of Sharjah on the Gulf of Oman.

Nahwa, around eight kilometers west of Neu-Madha, is surrounded by mighty mountains, has its own clinic, a modern police station and consists of around 40 houses. Nahwa is divided into Old Nahwa and New Nahwa and, despite the strategically unfavorable enclosure, seems to be better developed and wealthier than the relatively empty-looking Omani area of Madha. Old Nahwa, further west, can only be reached via a poor, dusty slope and is significantly poorer.
