Useful sound

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The useful sound or the useful signal is the opposite of interfering sound or interfering signal. A distinction is made between useful sound, such as music or the voice during a conversation, and interference sound, such as construction site or traffic noise . In electrical transmission, useful sound also represents the signal used for useful purposes , which is characterized by special electrical parameters such as voltage , frequency , etc. The useful signal can consist of a continuous or discontinuous process. In the case of the assignment of the useful sound to a reference value, one speaks of a useful level, which represents a significant quantity of the useful electrical signal.

A prerequisite for a good understanding of speech is that the useful sound is greater than the background sound. Not only hearing-impaired people, but also people with good hearing benefit from a positive useful / background noise ratio and short reverberation times .
