Nyaung Shwe ( Burmese ညောင်ရွှေ မြို့ , BGN / PCGN : nyaungzhwemyo) is a city north of Inle Lake in Shan State in Myanmar .

Nyaung Shwe is located about 15 km south of Shwe-nyaung on a canal that leads to Inle Lake and is the tourist gateway to Inle Lake. In addition to hotels and restaurants, this also includes boat docks and the possibility of renting boats. Nyaung Shwe can be reached via the airport in Heho west of Shwe-nyaung .
History
Nyaung Shwe was the seat of a Shan prince for centuries. The last Shan prince, Sao Shwe Thaike, became the country's first president after Burma gained independence in 1948.
