Nymphaion (Crimea)

Nymphaion ( Greek  Νυμφαῖον , Νύμφαιον or Νυμφαία ) is an ancient city ​​on the European bank of the Cimmerian Bosporus , about 15 kilometers south of Pantikapaion , near today's Kerch on the southeast coast of Crimea .

The place was in the 6th century BC. Founded by Greeks in Scythian territory and stood from 444 BC. Until around 400 BC BC under the suzerainty of Athens before the ancient city was incorporated into the Bosporan Empire . In the 4th century the place was abandoned.

The grave fields from Nymphaion date from both Greek and Scythian times ( Kurgane ). In 1982 a fresco with inscriptions and representations from the 3rd century BC was erected in Nymphaion . Discovered.
