The Organization for Cooperation of Railways ( OSJD ; Russian Организация Сотрудничества Железных Дорог (ОСЖД); Organisazija sotrudnitschestwa shelesnych dorog , Chinese Tielu Hezuo zǔzhī;铁路合作组织(Tiězǔ;铁组) ) is an intergovernmental organization in the field of rail transport. The abbreviation OSJD or OSZhD is also used in some languages . In German , the name was previously given as " Committee for Railway Transport ".

history

The OSJD was founded in Sofia in 1956 . Mainly railways of the former Comecon states and their neighboring countries are organized in it. After reunification , Germany, following its GDR membership, stayed as an observer in the OSJD.

The OSJD is based in Warsaw . The chairman is Tadeusz Szozda.

The OSJD has 28 members: Afghanistan , Albania , Azerbaijan , Bulgaria , People's Republic of China , Estonia , Georgia , Iran , Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan , Cuba , Latvia , Lithuania , Moldova , Mongolia , North Korea , Poland , Romania , Russian Federation , Slovakia , South Korea , Tajikistan , Czech Republic , Turkmenistan , Ukraine , Hungary , Uzbekistan , Vietnam and Belarus . Seven other railway administrations have observer status: Deutsche Bahn , VR-Yhtymä , SNCF , Organismos Sidirodromon Ellados , Serbian Railways , GySEV / Raaberbahn and the passenger traffic of the RŽD .

tasks

The main task of the OSJD is the development and improvement of international rail traffic, especially between Europe and Asia, as well as the technical-scientific cooperation of the member countries. The OSJD coordinates the railways involved and oversees agreements between them. The OSJD also serves as a standardization body for the former Comecon states and their neighboring countries . The OSJD plans transcontinental traffic corridors and works on the harmonization of freight law and technical conditions in international rail traffic.

The OSJD has been publishing a magazine since 1958. It appears six issues a year, each linguistically in three parallel versions, namely in Russian , Chinese and English . By the end of 2014, a German-language edition was published instead of an English -language edition.
