The obelisk is a monument to the prefects of Corsica in Ajaccio , the capital of the island of Corsica.

location

The monument is located in the garden in front of the Palais Lantivy in downtown Ajaccio, northwest of the old town. The street Cours Napoléon runs to the east .

Design and history

The obelisk was erected in 2017 and inaugurated on December 18, 2017. On the obelisk are the names and terms of office of the 85 department presidents from Pascal Paoli to François Orlandi and Pierre-Jean Luciani who worked in Corsica from 1790 to 2017. The reason for the establishment was a change in the organizational structure with which the Corsican departments Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud were dissolved at the end of 2017 . The initiative for the installation went back to the President of South Corsica, Pierre-Jean Luciani.

The stone obelisk stands on a small base. The sides of the obelisk are provided with gold-colored inscriptions.

The west side to the Cours Napoléon bears the inscription:
