Obelisk (Hadersfeld)
The obelisk is a building in the north of the town of Hadersfeld in the Lower Austrian market town of St. Andrä-Wölker .
description
On an artificial grotto made of quarry stones, a cube rests on a base, which supports a stone pillar that tapers towards the top. The cuboids and pillars are made of hewn natural stone. The tip is blunt and bears a gold star, which reminds of the triangulation and marks the border of the diocese of Passau . From the obelisk you have a beautiful view of the Tullnerfeld and the Marchfeld .
history
The property was built at the beginning of the 19th century and is a listed building (No. 23173). A Roman watchtower ( specula ) is said to have been located here in the past and there were chalk fires at the site during the First Siege of the Turks and the Second Siege of Vienna . After 1800, Johann Joseph Prince von Liechtenstein had Joseph Hardtmuth build a nature park not far from Hadersfeld Castle, which also included a no longer preserved temple that stood on the Temple Mount, where the Temple Mount Observatory is today.
