Upper Guinea (Guinea)
Upper Guinea (French: Haute-Guinée ) is one of the four unofficial regions of Guinea . It is located in the east of the country and consists mainly of savannah. It roughly corresponds to the official regions of Faranah and Kankan .
The predominant ethnic group in Upper Guinea are the Malinke . Their language is the lingua franca of Upper Guinea, as it was the lingua franca of the kingdom of Samory Touré , which existed in the 19th century. The center of this empire was in Upper Guinea.
