Oberharzisch ("Ewerharzisch") is a high German language variety from the old district of Osterode am Harz and the district of Goslar in Lower Saxony in Germany . It is spoken in a linguistic island in the Upper Harz that was shaped by mining . A large part of the people who immigrated to the area came from the western Ore Mountains . At least before, it was surrounded by an area where Lower Saxon was spoken.
