Name and story

The name Laßnitz comes from Slavic and means forest stream - this is very suitable for the district, as the Riedel slopes are almost entirely wooded. The name occurs several times along the course of the Laßnitz, starting from the source with Laßnitzhöhe, Oberlaßnitz, Mitterlaßnitz and Laßnitztal.

Due to the historical border location - the Schemerl Ridge formed the border between the Holy Roman Empire and the Kingdom of Hungary under the name Mons Predel in the 11th century - Eastern Styria and thus the area of Laßnitzhöhe was only settled afterwards. From the Franziszeischen cadastre it can be determined that in the area where the valley of the Laßnitz widens there must have been an estate. The period of its demolition cannot be determined, but can be clearly demonstrated by the mixed situation of the basic parcels in comparison to the surrounding remote farms. With the construction of the Styrian Eastern Railway in 1873 and the establishment of the railway station in Oberlaßnitz, the tourist boom and the construction of villas in Laßnitzhöhe began. The village was part of the spa district. In 1951 the village was combined with Wöbling and the Buckelberg district to form the municipality of Laßnitzhöhe. In 2012 the station was extensively modernized.
