Textile factory

The Kabul trolleybus was the only trolleybus operator in Afghanistan .

history

The plant in the Afghan capital Kabul opened on February 9, 1979 and - depending on the source - had to be shut down again in 1992 or 1993 as a result of the Afghan civil war . The only operated route was 12.5 kilometers long and connected the Hotel Spinzar with the textile factory. In fact, it was served by three different lines , each covering a section of the entire route. A separate ticket had to be purchased for each section, continuous tickets were not offered. Line numbers were not used, only the respective destination was displayed:

  • Hotel Spinzar - Silo
  • Pamir Silo Cinema
  • Pamir cinema textile factory

When it opened in 1979, only the middle section of the Pamir silo cinema went into operation; the depot was also located in this section . The plant was built between 1976 and 1979 with the help of Czechoslovak experts. The Škoda company supplied 25 solo trolleybuses of the type 9TrH23, painted blue and white .

In later years the line was extended at both ends. At that time, the sections Silo – Hotel Spinzar and Kino Pamir – textile factory were created under Afghan direction. The fleet was expanded by a further 61 of the same type. The company in Kabul had a total of 86 vehicles, of which between 55 and 60 courses were in use at the same time during rush hour .

On November 7, 2003, the Afghan Deputy Transport Minister Said Ahmad Roheen and a Czech consortium of companies under the leadership of the Brno company Královopolská Ria signed a contract in Prague for the re-establishment of a trolleybus network in Kabul. In total, a 27-kilometer route network was to be rebuilt or newly built by autumn 2011 and operated with 50 two-axle used cars of the older type Škoda 14Tr .
