The Malatya trolleybus (Turkish: Trambus or Trambüs ) is the only trolleybus system in Turkey . The responsible transport company is Motaş , which also operates the local city buses .

history

The system in the eastern Anatolian city of Malatya went into test operation on March 10, 2015. The passengers were carried free of charge. Regular operations are scheduled to start in October or November 2015. Trolleybuses were previously in use in Ankara (1947–1981), Izmir (1954–1992) and Istanbul (1961–1984). The only trambus line in Malatya consists of 53 stops and is 19 kilometers long, with the current advance service only serving the 11.5 kilometer section between the MASTI station in the center and İnönü Üniversitesi . Trambus is based on the Bus Rapid Transit concept , so in future, for example, bus platforms can only be entered with valid tickets.

vehicles

Initially, ten low-floor double articulated cars with the road numbers 4401–4410 were available. They were delivered in 2014 by the German-Turkish manufacturer Bozankaya . The German company Kiepe supplied their electrical equipment . Both electric drives of the twin-engine cars have an output of 160 kilowatts each, and the vehicles also have an auxiliary diesel drive .

A few days after the start of test operations, the fully occupied trolleybus number 4407 burned out while driving, and nobody was harmed. In May 2016, three new vehicles with the numbers 4411–4413 followed, in April 2017 another five with the numbers 4414–4418.
