The village church in Zitz

The Dorfkirche Zitz is the church in the village of Zitz in the municipality of Rosenau in the west of the state of Brandenburg. It is designated as an architectural monument . The church belongs to the Wusterwitz rectory of the Evangelical Church District Elbe-Fläming of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

The church in the village of Zitz is originally a Romanesque stone church from the 12th and 13th centuries. During the Thirty Years War Zitz was looted and largely destroyed. The war hit the village when, in the summer of 1631, the Swedes marched through the Elbe-Havel-Winkel area under their King Gustav II Adolf . Shortly before the end of the war, in August 1648, a Swedish army with around 8,000 soldiers passed through this area a second time. During the Thirty Years War, the Zitzer village church was burned to the ground . The church was only rebuilt around 1730 in an eight-year construction period by the Zitzer village community. Villagers who did not participate in the reconstruction had to pay a fine of six groschen . A new baroque church tower was built during the work . It was 42 feet (unit) high and covered with slats. In 1783 a third floor and a hood were added to the west tower . Since then the total height is 28.4 meters. The tower hood was covered with slate in 1812 .

In 1844 the first organ was installed in the village church . Twenty-four years later this was expanded by two registers . In 1906 the Zitzer church was renovated. Construction work was carried out on the church tower and the masonry. The wall of the churchyard was renewed and a pulpit , an altar and a baptismal font were newly acquired. Furthermore, new windows were inserted, a chandelier was installed and a new organ was installed.

In World War I, two were bronze bells melted . A 14th century bell remained in the chair. After the war, a large steel bell with a diameter of 1.67 meters was obtained as a replacement. When installing the bell cage, modifications had to be made. During the Second World War , the bell that was spared in 1914 was given up, but not melted down. It was brought back on August 20, 1948. For the millennium in 1973, the church was again extensively renovated and added to the list of monuments on December 10, 1984. In 1997 the roof was renewed after a storm damage.

Building

Inside look to the east into the choir

The village church is made of field stones. These are not plastered in the area of the nave and choir . There is a small arched portal to the south in the ship . The windows of the nave and choir are designed with segmental arches. They are walled in with bricks . The choir is slightly narrower and lower in height than the nave. The gable of the ship that is visible through this has a framework . A long apse adjoins the choir . The windows of the apse are arched in a basket . The masonry is plastered in this area, even if it has already crumbled in many places. The roof over the nave, choir and apse is covered with red beaver tails .

The lower part of the baroque church tower is made of field stone and the middle and upper part of clinker. It's plastered. However, this plaster is also badly damaged. The tower is three-story. The floors are separated by cornices . Further decorative elements are corner pilaster strips . The west portal is in the tower. It also has windows on the floors and the sound openings to the north, south and east for the bells. To the west, instead of a sound opening, a screen is incorporated. On the tower there is a slate-covered rider who carries the tower clock . The clock points in all four directions. A simply curly eight-sided hood was placed on the rider. The top is covered with a tower ball and a weather vane . The weather vane shows the year 1783.

Interior
