The Dorfkirche Mahlenzien is a hall church in the village of Mahlenzien in the city of Brandenburg an der Havel . The church belongs to the parish of Wusterwitz of the Evangelical Church District Elbe-Fläming of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany . It is directly opposite the Mahlenzien manor house .

Building history

The walled-in, but still recognizable, round-arched Romanesque elements in the south wall

The Mahlenzien village church is a Romanesque building made of field stone . In the church guide in the evangelical church district Elbe-Fläming , it is incorrectly described as early Gothic despite recognizable round arches . The hall church dates from the second half of the 13th century. It was a branch church of the Viesen village church . The church patronage was first in 1376 with the von Sandau family, from 1470 with the von Grabow family and from 1583 with the von Schierstedt family .

In 1729 the village church was extensively rebuilt. The choir was adapted to the width of the nave and the windows were rebuilt or enlarged in Baroque style. Furthermore, we put a steeple from truss on the west gable . On the wooden pillars of the tower was erected inside the west gallery . A pulpit altar with rich carvings is also attributed to the baroque.

In the 1990s and 2000s, extensive renovation work was carried out on the Mahlenzien village church, which was no longer usable due to its dilapidation. So in 1994 the roof was re-covered. From 1999 the tower and the nave were repaired. Between 2001 and 2002 the wooden carved altar and the church stalls were restored and from 2003 to 2004 the weather vane and the tower ball were renewed. In the process, coins and documents from 1895 were discovered in a time capsule , which point to a repair that took place that year.

Building

Coat of arms of the von Schierstedt family

The nave of the church was built from hewn field stones. On the south side you can see a round arched window and a round arched portal . On the south and north sides of the ship there are three high windows that are rectangular on the outside and arched on the inside . Furthermore, the field stones on the south and north sides are covered with a white plaster . The west portal, like the windows, is rectangular on the outside and arched on the inside. Above this is a stone, which shows the coat of arms of the patronage family von Schierstedt, three blunt arrows.

The east and west gables are half-timbered. The half-timbered church tower is located above the west gable. Its sound openings point in all four directions. A clock tower is not there. The pyramid roof of the tower is covered with red beaver tails . At the top is the weather vane with the year 1729 and the tower ball. The gable roof of the nave is also covered with red beaver tails.

Interior

Pulpit altar and patronage stalls

Inside the church there is a wooden pulpit altar with rich carvings. On both sides in front of this on the north and south walls are the separate patronage stalls . The rest of the church stalls are simple. The wooden west gallery is located above the entrance. It is noticeable that the entire wooden interior of the village church (pulpit altar, patronage and other church stalls, gallery) does not have any paint.
