The village church Viesen is a medieval church in the village of Viesen in the municipality of Rosenau in the west of Brandenburg. It is designated as an architectural monument and belongs to the Wusterwitz rectory of the Evangelical Church District Elbe-Fläming of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

Presumably in the late 12th century the construction of the stone church in Romanesque style began. The oldest parts of the hall church are the choir and the apse . A little later the nave with the tower was added. The ship probably had four windows on either side and the choir two windows. In the early 13th century, a brick bell floor was added to the church tower . At the end of the 13th century the original apse was demolished and the choir was extended to the east. In this extension, another window was placed in the north and south outer walls. The straight east end received three Gothic windows. Presumably at the end of the 17th century, the existing windows were structurally changed. They were enlarged. Furthermore, two high entrances to galleries or boxes, which were later removed again, were built on the south side . The Viesen landlord Wolf Friedrich von Britzke and his wife, née Byern , donated a wooden altarpiece in 1684 . In 1686 the pulpit was incorporated. In the 17th century the nave and choir were given galleries. In the first half of the 20th century, a wooden baptismal font was created by the Wusterwitz carver and puppeteer Wilhelm Götze . From 1984 to 1987 the community had the wooden beam ceilings in the nave and choir renewed.

Building

The church is primarily made of exposed field stones. It is divided into three parts: west tower, nave and choir. The nave is wider and taller than the choir. There is a round arched portal on the south side of the nave . Its arch is made of bricks. Carved into the wooden door is "Andreas Eschholz adored this Thur Ao 1657". The westernmost of the four south-facing windows is in the structurally unchanged state and is also rounded. The three that followed have changed over the centuries. They have segment arcs . The third of the south windows of the nave has a brick base. It is a window opening that has meanwhile been changed to a high entrance and later dismantled. The easternmost window is surrounded by a strip of plaster, a bottle . The windows on the north side are also designed differently. Two of the original windows are small and round-arched, two structurally modified segmental arches and proportionally larger. A lower-lying rectangular window opening, which has existed in the meantime, was walled up.

The choir also has an arched south entrance. Two segmented arched windows of the choir to the south are offset against each other. A third one between the two was added and the masonry plastered. This should also once have served as a high entrance to the gallery. The east windows are narrow and ogival . The pitched roof above the choir with roof tiles covered that above the ship with red beaver tails .

A west portal was walled up with field stones. The tower is much narrower than the ship. In the lower part it is made of field stones, in the upper part, in the area of the belfry , of bricks. A small arched window opening is about halfway up and faces west. The bell cage has two sound openings on each side. The tower is also covered with a gable roof. The gables are each covered with wooden strips.

Furnishing

Choir of the Viesen village church

Inside the church there is a wooden altarpiece from 1684. It was donated by the landlord and his wife. It is divided into three parts and shows paintings on top of each other with the Last Supper of Jesus , the crucifixion and the resurrection . Above this is a blown gable on which two putti sit. At the sides, winding columns flank the paintings. The coat of arms of the von Britzke and von Byern families , the landlord and his wife, are also attached.

The pulpit is polygonal . It is installed on the north side of the triumphal arch . The support and the basket are decorated. The galleries are located on the north, west and south sides of the ship. The south pore is decorated with heraldic paintings. In the choir there is a gallery on the south side, which used to have a separate entrance from the south side of the choir. The floor is stepless between the nave and the choir. The wood beam ceiling is simple.
